BC Squared Building Services Engineering - Key Services

> Take a look at the Full List of Services that BC Squared offer

bc² specialise in providing 21st Century building services engineering solutions, with a particular emphasis on environmentally sustainable outcomes. These services include (but are not limited to) offering professional building services engineering and project management in the following disciplines:

Mechanical & Electrical Building Services Engineering

Building services engineering is an engineering discipline which is concerned with the planning, design, construction, operation, renovation, and maintenance of buildings, while bearing in mind their impacts on the surrounding environment. bc² has a wealth of experience in this particular disipline, making us the first choice for many projects.

As many construction projects are becoming increasingly large and complex, building services engineering requires a comprehensive knowledge of all the disiplines involved in the design process in order to be well executed. bc² are experts in finding appropriate solutions which will improve the performance of any proposed building through areas such as:

  • Energy efficiency, passive solar engineering, lighting and acoustics
  • Construction management
  • Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) control systems, Indoor air quality
  • Advanced building materials

Building Physics, Sustainability, & Low Energy Design

bc² sees the attraction of providing sustainable design solutions, and is motivated by the theory that sustainable design can help to both inspire and create a sustainable way of living within a community.

Simply put, sustainable building design applies techniques of sustainable design to either existing or new architecture. This is done with clear environmental goals in mind, and generally speaking sustainable architecture seeks to minimize the negative environmental impact of buildings by enhancing efficiency and ensuring moderation in the use of materials and energy.

bc² utilise state-of-the-art computer aided modeling technology to assist their design team in delivering a low carbon solution for each project.

Energy Management

An energy management system (EMS) is a computer system which is designed specifically for the automated control and monitoring of the heating, ventilation and lighting needs of a building or group of buildings. Common establishments where this system has been particularly successfully installed by bc² in the past include university campuses, office buildings and factories.

bc² ensure that these energy management systems also provide facilities for the reading of electricity, gas and water meters. Therefore the data obtained from these systems can then be used to produce trend analysis and annual consumption forecasts, which in turn mean that bc² can then work towards reducing the buildings overall energy consumption.

Thermal Energy Storage (TES)

The term Thermal Energy Storage (TES) refers to a number of technologies that store energy in a thermal reservoir for reuse later. bc² often employ this technology if there is a need to balance the energy demand and provision.

This is possible through the use of a thermal reservoir which has the ability to be maintained at a temperature above or below that of the surrounding environment. bc² are particularly enthusiastic about employing this technology when the thermal energy storage units are powered by heat that is sourced from active solar collectors.

In addition, thanks to major advances in technology, TES systems are moving on from their established ability to store one days worth of heat in favour of becoming seasonal thermal stores which can used to store summer heat for use during winter.
